About IELTS
As an internationally-recognised English language test, IELTS is a pre-requisite for foreign students who wish to pursue diplomas, degrees or postgraduate qualifications in English-speaking countries, including Singapore. In addition, IELTS is required from those wishing to migrate to live and work in The UK, The USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
The test is held on two days and comprises a 45-minute listening test, a 1-hour reading test and a 1-hour writing test (all on the first day) and a 15-minute oral interview (on the second day). Candidates are marked out of a band score of 9.0. If you are planning to enter polytechnic, you must achieve a minimum band score of 5.5. If you have applied to university, you must achieve a minimum band score of 6.5. IELTS is a challenging test and it is essential that you give yourself 3-4 months to prepare for it.
